Eva and Greg Dubrovnik Wedding | Eva and Greg met thousands of miles away from one other. They spent time over the period of a year simply writing and exchanging thoughts on everything from mediocre importance like favorite foods and the news or of monumental importance like kids and religion. Their words and their conversations turned into something more. This courtship separated by countless miles became commitment. A commitment from Greg to travel to Germany and a commitment from Eva to risk everything on this lumbering monster of a man. (lol)
The first time they met in Germany during most would say the surroundings were unfit to stoke the fires of everlasting love. Words like cold, harsh, unforgiving were used to describe the weather and surroundings that fall and winter, but Eva and Greg’s love broke through. They suffered annoyance and happiness from the typical hurdles new couples’ experience, moving in together, learning each other’s rhythms, and encouraging each other’s passions.
Inevitably Eva and Greg came to a major decision in their relationship. Could they trust each other enough to welcome a new member of their yet to be solidified family? The answer was yes and they chose the Dogo Argentino. The Dogo Argentino is a beautiful headstrong dog that was developed in Argentina. The breeder wanted a dog that would exhibit steadfast bravery and willingly protect its human companions to the death. This was really the true point at which Eva and Greg made an eternal commitment to one another. Cooper their now two and a half year old boy continued to teach Eva and Greg the meaning of trust, unconditional love, and forgiveness the essential parts of any marriage and it is from his commitment to be at their sides, that they too strengthened their commitment to each other.
Within a year of bringing Cooper into their lives Greg knew it was time to ask for Eva’s hand in marriage. He nervously spent a day with Eva’s father Siegfried, mother Doris, and Brother Johannes to ask permission and was thankfully given it without incident. Soon after Greg planned to take Eva back to the U.S. and ask the big question, but hardship struck at the worst time. Greg’s Grandfather passed away and Eva was quickly thrown into a scenario where she would have to experience Greg at his worst and also his Father Richard, Mother Michele, and brothers Rick and Mike’s worst of times. Eva carried Greg’s sorrow and fear as her own and through the sadness of this event, the beauty of two people promising their unspoken matters of the heart gave everyone glimmer of hope.
The Wedding was set but, “Why Dubrovnik?” one would ask. Eva a German Woman and Greg an American Man had no connection to this city, no history with the Croatian people. Their decision mimicked the tale of their love. They simply fell head over heels in love with the city after only one trip there. Their first visit walking in the old town, dipping in the Adriatic Sea, and sharing the unforgettable sunsets together mimicked exactly what the perfect wedding should have. Dubrovnik has natural beauty and is a constant reminder of the countless couples who devoted their love to one another through time. They declared their love in front of family, friends, God Almighty, and yes also Cooper eternally and forever on September 24th 2015.
